‘No one has come to the market since the beginning of the year’

At the Edirne Monday Market, merchants and citizens complained about the prices. Market trader Faruk Ule said:

“Our prices are affordable. We do not know how the prices are compared to last year, but they are totally free prices. Our property does not see the value it wants. There are huge numbers between the grocery store and the market. We have heard about the cabbages that we give for 10 lira, we have not seen it ourselves. They buy cabbages for 40 lire in the markets, not by weight, not by piece. People have not come to the market since New Year’s Eve. Those who come take only a small cabbage, a very small leek, a very small celery for their daily food.

“PEOPLE ARE USED TO THE MARKET”

Trader Levent Nektirta, on the other hand, stated that citizens are used to markets, saying: “I have 17 lira in this lettuce market, 10 lira. What’s up, he doesn’t come back, he doesn’t understand. Domestic goods, Karaağaç goods. People who are used to it, market market…”, he said.

Citizen Enver Sarı also stated that the prices are more affordable in the market, saying: “The market is cheaper, the markets are expensive. The market in Edirne is full, but they are all expensive. You have a lot of variety here,” he said.

“I CAN NOT PASS”

Citizen Hikmet Yılmaz stated that they could not live on the salary they received and said: “It is expensive, how much does a piece of cheese cost, 150 lira. Feed is expensive, people cut their animals. I bought 2 bags of feed for my animals, an increase of 15 lira in 2 days. What should we do, let’s give these animals to slaughter. The prices are all expensive, they do not match each other. I can’t earn a living. My wife has a pension. How does she live on a pension? We are open, so we are open,” he said. (PHOENIX)
