14.42 percent of workers in Turkey are unionized
In accordance with “Law No. 6356 on Unions and Collective Bargaining” of the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare; The Communiqué of January 2023 Statistics on the Number of Workers in Business Branches and the Number of Trade Unionists was published in the Official Gazette.
Thus, 2 million 330 thousand 98 of the 16 million 163 thousand 54 workers, which corresponds to 14.42 percent, are affiliated to a union.
Among the 20 business lines, the business line with the largest number of workers was “commerce, office, education and fine arts” with 4 million 211 thousand 656 workers. It was followed by “metal” with 1 million 919 thousand 28 workers and “construction” with 1 million 525 thousand 729 workers.
Türk Metal Union ranked first among all unions with its 258,928 members. Service-İş Union followed Türk Metal with 256,625 members and Öz Sağlık-İş Union with 199,587 members.
INCREASED 49K IN 6 MONTHS
When comparing the data for July 2022, the total number of workers in Turkey increased by 175,626 and the number of unionized workers increased by 49,813 people. The increase in the number of unionized workers was 0.16 percent.
While the union with the largest number of affiliates was Hizmet-İş with 256,625 workers in the previous period, Türk Metal increased its membership by 13,326 and reached 258,928 in this period. The number of members that Hizmet-İş added recently increased by 4 thousand 13 people.
Öz Sağlık-İş, which increased the number of its members by 5,758, kept its place in the ranking.
Although there was no change in the order of the business lines in which the most unionized workers worked, the number of workers working in these business lines increased.
The number of workers in the “commerce, office, education and fine arts” branch increased by 125,649 in the first place, by 53,315 the number of workers in the second branch “metal” and by 53,315 the number of workers in the “construction” branch it increased by 80 thousand 361 people. AA
