Kartalkaya lives one of the worst seasons in history.
The snow has not reached the desired level this season at the Kartalkaya ski center, which is located on the top of the Köroğlu mountains at an altitude of 2200 in Bolu.
Artificial snow was added to the slopes at Kartalkaya, where snow fell for a short time due to the air temperature. Although the snow melts completely where the sun shines, skiing is only possible on 8 of the 25 slopes.
The occupancy rate of hotels in the region remained at 20 percent because the snow depth was not at the desired level.
“I’ve never seen such a bad season”
Halit Ergül, President of the Western Black Sea Tourism Hoteliers Association, stated that they had the worst season in the last 42 years, saying, “The snow in Kartalkaya was insufficient this year. Many of the tracks are closed. There is no pleasure on the ski slopes either. The hotel occupancy rate is around 20 percent. We live the worst season in years. I have been in Kartalkaya for 42 years, I have never seen such a bad season, ”he said.

‘I DON’T SKI ON OPEN PLOTS’
Explaining that they are constantly following the General Directorate of Meteorology, Ergül said, “Snow always rained around New Year’s Eve or a few days after, but this time it was the worst. Currently, hotels have combined their walkways. 2 slopes are open in one part, and 6 slopes are open in the area with artificial snow machines. If we collect them all, there is a ski area of about 15 kilometers. There are normally 25 slopes on Kartalkaya, and skiing on open slopes is not good,” he said.
Expressing his views on the rest of the season, Ergül said: “The customer density is also around 20 percent. There is heavy snowfall from the 27th of this month. We also constantly follow the weather reports. If that profit comes, it’s a profit, no matter where the loss comes from,” he said.
