Tourism in Europe is close to pre-pandemic levels
In European Union (EU) countries, the number of nights spent in tourist facilities such as hotels and hostels last year approached the level prior to the Covid-19 epidemic.
The European Statistical Office (Eurostat) has published data on overnight tourist accommodation in member countries in 2022.
Consequently, the EU tourism sector, which was severely affected by the epidemic, recovered significantly last year.
The number of overnight stays in tourist establishments, which was 2,000 million 880 million in 2019, which is the period prior to the epidemic, reached 2,000 million 720 million in 2022.
Therefore, overnight stays in tourism facilities in EU countries last year were only 5.6 percent lower than the 2019 period before the epidemic.
IN 3 COUNTRIES THE PRE-EPIDEMIC PERIOD WAS EXCEEDED
Overnight tourist accommodation in EU countries was 1,000 million 420 million in 2020 and 1,000 million 830 million in 2021.
While international tourist accommodation from outside EU countries was 1.360 billion in 2019, last year it was 1.190 billion.
Thus, the stays of international tourists remained 12.6 percent below the level prior to the epidemic.
The number of overnight stays of international tourists was set at 412.5 million in 2020 and 587.8 million in 2021.
The number of tourist nights in 3 EU member countries exceeded pre-Covid-19 levels.
Last year, tourist stays increased by 12.3% in Denmark, 3.9% in the Netherlands and 0.5% in Belgium compared to before the epidemics. (AA)
