The head of the Bundesnetzagentur, Klaus Müller, expects no more setbacks. “I expect something will go wrong this year,” he says. ‘German gas depots will still be about 50% full at the end of winter. They are currently 90% full. That’s why we can now also focus on next winter.
Gasoline prices
Müller also says gas prices – which skyrocketed in 2022 but have been steadily falling recently – have now reached a plateau and expect to stay that way for the next two years.
He talks about three possible risk factors that could drive prices up. For example, colder temperatures in the winter of 2024 could play a role, Chinese gas demand could drive up prices, and the vulnerability of the gas infrastructure creates a higher risk, with reference to the sabotage of the Nord Stream pipeline.
