Germany focuses on gas supplies for the winter of 2024
Klaus Müller, Head of the Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur), which regulates the energy market in Germany, stated that Germany has enough natural gas to survive the winter without risk of an emergency.
Müller said in an interview with the German newspaper Bild am Sonntag that they expect gas storage facilities in the country to be more than 50 percent full by the end of the winter season.
Expressing that there is no gasoline shortage in the country, Müller said: “Despite all the uncertainty, I don’t expect anything to go wrong this winter. “Now we are focusing on next winter,” he said.
Müller stated that the occupancy rate of 47 gas storage facilities in Germany exceeded 90 percent, saying: “This is a remarkable rate as the occupancy rate in January is rarely that high.”
PRICE volatility is expected to end
Commenting on gas prices, which rose in 2022 but fell again recently, Müller said: “I hope the price fluctuations will end. The cost of gas is currently the same as it was in December 2021. There is a lot to show that we have reached a price level that we can count on for the next 1-2 years.”
The German government called on consumers to save 20 percent on energy to avoid power problems during the winter months.
According to data from the German Gas Storage Initiative, the total capacity of 47 underground gas storage facilities operated by 25 companies in Germany is approximately 24 billion cubic meters. (AA)
