CHP’s Yalım: Vehicle inspection fee is theft
The vehicle inspection fees applied in 2023 provoked the reaction of CHP Uşak deputy Özkan Yalım. Yalım came to Parliament with a banner displaying the fee schedule, saying, “The examination fee for criminal cars and vans, which are the most widely used types of vehicles, was 1,130 lira. This fee for a 15 minute transaction is state sponsored theft. When the General Directorate of Highways handed over this job to TÜVTÜRK, the inspection fee was 138 lire. In the last 16 years, the rate of increase has been 719 percent,” he said.
“THEY ARE TRYING TO SELL VEHICLES TO THE NATION AND LOWER THE PRICE”
Recalling that a 25 percent increase was given to civil servants and retirees as good news, Yalım said, “How will these people cover this expense with a 25 percent increase? Citizens will sell their vehicle or travel without inspection. They are trying to reduce car prices by raising the price of compulsory traffic insurance, raising the vehicle inspection fee, raising fuel prices, making the nation sell its cars. Give up the truth,” she said.
“PAY THOUSAND 130 LIRA WITHOUT TIGHTENING A SCREW”
CHP’s Yalım continued his words as follows: “The prices for vehicle inspections without tightening a bolt or making any adjustments are very high. The salary, which was 507 lira last year, has become 1,130 lira this year. This increase is very high compared to the income of citizens. If vehicle inspections were carried out by the General Directorate of Highways, we would now be paying a maximum of 350 lira per car. The reason for this is that while the president reduced the revaluation rate by 50 percent on public services, a car now pays 1,130 lira, as vehicle inspection fees have never been affected by this reduction.
