125 thousand 892 merchants went bankrupt in 2022
CHP Vice President Veli Ağbaba drew attention to the bankruptcy of merchants in 2022.
Ağbaba said, “The number of merchants who went bankrupt upon leaving the registry and the profession in 2022 was recorded at 125,892. Last year, 99,706 merchants left the registry and 25,892 merchants left the profession. Last year, 10,491 merchants went bankrupt each month and 349 became unemployed every day.
“In addition, the number of merchants who went bankrupt in the period from 2018 to 2022 exceeded 548,000,” Ağbaba said.
Thus, the total number of bankruptcies increased by 23.7 percent in 2022 compared to the previous year.
‘548 thousand 374 merchants have gone bankrupt in the last 4 years’
Ağbaba said that “125,892 bankruptcies that took place in 2022 exceeded the year-end bankruptcies of the last four years” and that the total number of merchant bankruptcies between 2018 and 2022 increased to 548,374.
Ağbaba said: “Unfortunately, the presidential system brought hunger, not abundance, to the merchants” and continued as follows:
“Although AKP presented the new economic model as a success, the participation of the merchants in this success largely fell into bankruptcy. Even Erdogan’s good news of interest cuts could not save merchants from bankruptcy. The merchants, left to fend for themselves by the government, tried to cover their debts with debt. As a result of this, our merchants returned as hunger and unemployment.
ISTANBUL HAS RECORD IN THE NUMBER OF BANKRUPTCY
Last year, the highest bankruptcy rate among the 5 big cities was in Istanbul, like every year.
Ağbaba said, “In 2022, a total of 13,160 merchants in Istanbul went bankrupt by leaving the profession and registration,” continuing as follows:
“After Istanbul, the province with the highest number of bankruptcies was Izmir.
The number of merchants who went bankrupt in İzmir last year was recorded at 8,400. While the number of merchants who went bankrupt in Ankara last year was 6,811, this number was 5,912 in Antalya.
