The balance of two runs at home on New Year’s Eve: Come and don’t drink!
The high tax on alcoholic beverages and cigarettes has been one of the most effective means used by the AKP government to keep the budget afloat since 2002.
The last increase in alcoholic beverages was last October of this year. The last walk of 2021 was held in November.
LUXURIOUS
We compare the prices of alcoholic beverages between 2021-2022, days before the new year; It turned out that drinking a double drink is also a luxury in Turkey, which is struggling with the cost of living and inflation.
The current price of 35 raki, which is called ‘small’ among the people, which was 92 TL last year, is 190 TL with an increase of 106 percent. The price of 70 raki, which the old people used to say before New Year’s Eve: “We will make a great milkshake”, increased from 175 lira to 359 lira.
Those who take advantage of the New Year to say: “Raki is always drunk, let’s open the mouth of the purse a little”, think twice… Because whiskey prices are like Roman spears!
According to some, a mediocre “Scotch”, according to others, last year it was sold for 249 lire, while this year the price is 429 lire.
The German price of the 70 whiskey in question is 15 euros. While a bottle of whiskey is bought by working 1.5 hours in Germany, a minimum wage worker in Turkey has to work 17 hours to taste the same whiskey.
Beer, which is the choice of those who say “I have a painless head, I’m carefree”, is not as reasonable as before.
The price of a can of beer, which last year was 14 liras and 75 cents, has risen to 28 liras. We remind you that the weight of extra mixed nuts, which sold for 95 lira last year, has increased to 155 lira.
Even the price of the mint liqueur (35) to accompany the coffee after the meal was 189 lira.
LABELS MAY BE FOUR DIGITAL BY 2024
Following the announcement of producer inflation figures in the first week of January this year, the AKP government increased the excise tax (SCT) on cigarettes and alcohol by 47.4 percent.
It should come as no surprise that spirits prices jumped into four digits heading into 2024, following ‘automatic’ increases in January and July 2023.
