THE MINISTER ANNOUNCES THE PRICE TO BE APPLIED IN 2023
In early December, the Turkish Retail Federation (TPF) demanded that the price of shopping bags sold from 25 cents be increased to 75 cents.
TPF Chairman Ömer Duzgun stated that the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change asked for his opinion, saying: “Consumers can put a product that fits in one bag into three bags. Why, because it’s cheap. Since garbage bags on the shelf are expensive, the grocery bag was later used as a garbage bag at home.”
Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Minister Murat Kurum, in his speech in Parliament, said: “With the decision we made this year, we set the price of bags at 25 cents and we are not going for any increase.”
TPF Chairman Ömer Duzgun also informed citizens that they paid 29 cents to the government for market bags sold at 25 cents, and that the cost of a bag could start from 55-60 cents on average and go up to 1 TL.
