The inflation rate for December will be announced in the coming days, so inflation for 2022 will be determined. The inflation rate, which increased month by month and reduced the purchasing power of citizens, fell for the first time last month of this year by the base effect. It is considered certain that the latest inflation data for 2022 will also be downward.

WHEN WILL THE 2022 INFLATION RATE BE ANNOUNCED?

TURKSTAT will announce December inflation on Tuesday, January 3, 2022. The data is expected to be released at 10:00 am.

INFLATION EXPECTATION

The Central Bank (CBRT) announced the results of the December survey of market participants. While participants’ current year-end consumer inflation (CPI) expectation was 68.06 percent in the previous survey period, it decreased to 66.80 percent in this survey period.

While the 12-month CPI expectation was 37.47 percent in the previous survey period, it decreased to 34.92 percent in this survey period.

The CPI expectation after 24 months was 20.76 percent and 20.56 percent, respectively, during the same survey periods.

SURVEY PARTICIPANTS HAVE CHANGED

The “participants” in the CBRT survey of market participants changed three months ago, and after the change, expectations for the dollar and inflation fell.

While this move by CBRT raised questions about the reliability of the survey, it was revealed that several participants, including large banks and employer organizations, were excluded from the survey due to their high expectations of CBRT.
