Request for additional increase for officials
Vedat Bilgin, Minister of Labor and Social Security, accepted the President of Turkey, Kamu-Sen Önder Kahveci, and the accompanying Kamu-Sen Turkish administration.
Speaking to the press after the meeting, Kahveci said that a number of requests from public employees were forwarded to Minister Bilgin. bilgin said:
“Considering the high course of inflation and the price increases in food and basic necessities, we share with the Minister that an additional increase must be made to avoid losses of our public employees. Starting in January, an additional increase for employees has become a necessity. However, we are of the opinion that in order to increase the purchasing power of our employees, we need to introduce social participation in wages. In periods when inflation is high, losses should be avoided by reflecting the monthly part of the inflation difference in wages. In addition, the tax burden is a serious burden for employees.
‘OUR REQUEST FOR 3600 ADDITIONAL INDICATORS WAS REASONABLE’
Kahveci recalled that last year, the part of all salaries equivalent to the minimum wage was excluded from taxes, saying: “This practice did not generate the desired reflection due to high inflation. Our current request is; Reduce the tax burden on employees and tax our public officials at 15 percent.
Emphasizing that the first grade officials had requests for additional indicators to be 3600, Kahveci said, “Mr. Minister also reasonably complied with this request. Hopefully, there will be an improvement in this regard in the next period. This arrangement must be made. We need this regulation to establish labor equity, justice and peace,” he said.
‘ALL CONTRACT EMPLOYEES MUST BE REGISTERED’
Kahveci pointed out that there are 32 different states of contract employees in the public sector and said that all contract employees must be recruited leaving no one out.
Kahveci, who wanted to increase the clothing aid according to the conditions of the day and start the transport and rental aid, said:
“We requested an appointment with the Minister of Finance regarding the tax burden. We, as public employees, do not say ‘let’s not pay taxes’. We want the income tax rate to be set at 15 percent. This is a very reasonable request. Because public employees are an important group that fulfills its duties towards the State and pays its taxes periodically before receiving its salary. We also request a quote from our President regarding both the additional increase and the tax issue. We will share these problems with them too” (AA)
