TURKSTAT hides the minimum subsistence figure
The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) once again withheld information from the Minimum Wage Determination Commission. TurkStat was unable to submit to the commission the amount of expenses required for a worker to meet the minimum living conditions. TURKSTAT, which provides regular figures to the commission until 2020, did not disclose figures for the first time last year so as not to assume responsibility and not be the focus of criticism.
MEETING WITHOUT DATA
There was no figure for the second meeting of the Minimum Wage Determination Commission, eagerly awaited by millions of workers. At the meeting held yesterday with the participation of representatives of Türk-İş and TİSK under the chairmanship of the Minister of Labor Vedat Bilgin, TÜİK was expected to submit to the commission the amount of monthly living required for a worker to maintain his life. In addition, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Commerce would also provide information on the current economic and social situation. The ministries communicated to the commission a series of known data of the Medium Term Program. However, when it comes to TURKSTAT, the problem experienced last year came up again. The TURKSTAT representative stated that he could not give the minimum living wage to the commission because corporate responsibility could not be assumed.
Türk-İş, in reaction to TÜİK, said that these data should be sent to the commission in accordance with article 55 of the Constitution, but no results were obtained. Until 2020, TURKSTAT regularly calculates and allocates the minimum living wage of a single worker to the commission according to workers working in heavy, medium and light work, and the amount calculated for heavy work is generally taken into account in the calculation. of the minimum wage.
