The Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) announced the unemployment data for October.
According to the results of the Household Workforce Survey; The number of unemployed aged 15 and over increased by 57 thousand in October 2022 compared to the previous month and reached 3 million 534 thousand people.
The unemployment rate, on the other hand, increased by 0.1 percentage point to 10.2 percent. The unemployment rate was 8.6 percent for men and 13.3 percent for women.
EMPLOYMENT RATE 48 PERCENT
The number of employed people increased by 229 thousand people in October 2022 compared to the previous month and went to 31 million 200 thousand people, while the employment rate increased 0.3 points to 48.0 percent. While this rate was 65.6 percent for men, it was 30.8 percent for women.
In October 2022, the labor force increased by 287 thousand people compared to the previous month and reached 34 million 734 thousand people, while the labor participation rate increased 0.4 points to 53.5 percent. The labor participation rate was 71.8% for men and 35.5% for women.
YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT INCREASES
The unemployment rate among the youth population covering the age group of 15 to 24 years became 21.9 percent with an increase of 1.8 percentage points compared to the previous month. Unemployment rate in this age group; It was estimated at 18.2 percent for men and 28.6 percent for women.
The seasonally and calendar-adjusted average effective weekly working hours of the employed during the reference period increased by 0.3 hours compared to the previous month and amounted to 44.3 hours in October 2022.
WIDE UNEMPLOYMENT 20.3 PERCENT
The time underemployment rate, known as broadly defined unemployment, potential labor force and idle labor force, which is made up of the unemployed, was unchanged at 20.3 percent in October 2022 compared with the month previous.
While the combined rate of time-related underemployment and unemployment was 14.2 percent, the combined rate of potential labor and unemployment was estimated at 16.6 percent.
