The reason for the lack of medicines is the cost and supply.
Pandemic According to pharmacists, one of the four drugs fell into the non-existent category in the drug crisis that accelerated in the aftermath of the crisis, while manufacturers pointed to the supply problem and high costs for a solution. Abdi İbrahim, General Manager, Süha Taşpolatoğlu, pointed out that there are still companies that cannot find containers and bottles on the market, and that production may suffer due to rising prices of raw materials on the basis of foreign currency: This it is one of the main reasons for the shortage of medicines during this period. Another reason is that if the costs are not enough, companies may refrain from marketing the products. Taşpolatoğlu stated that the first half of 2023 points to a similar outlook in the pharmaceutical field and that there may be a 30 percent price increase within the scope of the decree on the price of medicines.
THE DEMAND IS HIGH
Selim Giray, General Manager of GSK Turkey, said: “Demand is increasing and there are supply problems. We are in a difficult period. It is not exclusive to Turkey. The demand for some products has increased tremendously around the world. There is nothing to panic about. All of them can be managed as long as they advance on a common roadmap”.
Production shift in Australia to Turkey
Abdi İbrahim and GSK Turkey, the two biggest representatives of the industry, have cooperated and brought to Turkey the most advanced “nebula” technology used in the treatment of respiratory diseases, with an investment of 340 million Turkish Lira. It is claimed that by moving production from GSK’s Australian factory to the Abdi İbrahim facility, it will contribute to closing the current account deficit by approximately TL 2 billion in 5 years. Within the scope of the project, it is intended to produce 600 million nebulae.
