Istanbul fell to second place in per capita income

The Statistical Institute of Turkey announced the data on “Provincial Gross Domestic Product” for 2021. Consequently, in 2021, Istanbul achieved the highest Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at Lira 2 trillion 202.156 million and received a share of 30.4 percent of the total product.

This province was followed by Ankara with 667 billion 142 million lira and a 9.2 percent share, and Izmir with 462 152 million lira and a 6.4 percent share. The top 5 provinces with the highest share of GDP accounted for 54.4 percent of total revenue in 2021.

Tunceli with 6.99 million lira, Ardahan with 4.968 million lira and Bayburt with 3.861 million lira occupied the last 3 places in the GDP calculations at the provincial level.

KOCAELİ RISES TO THE FIRST RANK IN GDP PER CAPITA

In the said period, Kocaeli surpassed Istanbul in GDP per capita and ranked first with 153,479 lira. This province was followed by Istanbul with 140,698 lira and TekirdaÄŸ with 132,803 lira.

In the calculations of GDP per capita at the provincial level, Van with 27,790 lira, Şanlıurfa with 27,48 lira and Ağrı with 26,837 lira occupied the last three places.

GDP per capita was above Turkey’s average in 13 provinces in 2021.

THE SERVICES SECTOR HAS RETURNED TO THE GDP OF ISTANBUL

When analyzing the activities that make up GDP, Istanbul, which had the highest share of GDP at current prices in 2021, ranked first in all activities excluding the agricultural sector and other service activities.

Istanbul’s share of the total information and communication activities is 65.6%, the share it receives from the total financial and insurance activities is 60.6%, the share it receives from the total professional, administrative and support services is 45.7%, and its participation in the total of the service sector is 41 percent.9, its participation in the total of the construction sector was 32.2 percent.

Konya ranked first in the agriculture, forestry and fisheries sector with a 6 percent share, and Ankara in other service activities with a 42.3 percent share.

While Istanbul garnered a 41.9 percent share of the total service sector in 2021, the share of the service sector in the province’s total GDP was 33.7 percent. Within Istanbul’s total GDP, the industrial sector ranked second with a share of 18.8 percent, while vocational, administrative and support service activities ranked third with a share of 7.2 percent.

ORDU, RİZE AND CANAKKALE NEGATIVELY AFFECTED GROWTH

The annual GDP increased by 11.4 percent in 2021 compared to the previous year with the chained volume index, while the increase was above the Turkish average in 17 provinces. Compared to the previous year, the top three provinces with the largest increase in 2021 were Antalya with 26.5%, TekirdaÄŸ with 20% and Yalova with 19.6%, respectively.

The three provinces with the largest decrease compared to the previous year were Sinop with 2.7 percent, Gümüşhane with 4.8 percent and Ardahan with 5.4 percent, respectively. With the chained volume index of annual GDP, the province that contributed the most to the increase of 11.4 percent over the previous year was Istanbul with 3.96 percent. Istanbul was followed by Ankara with 0.95 percent and Izmir with 0.85 percent.

Ordu at 0.007 percent, Rize at 0.008 percent and Çanakkale at 0.009 percent came at the top of the provinces that had a negative impact on annual GDP growth in 2021. (BRITISH AUTOMOBILE CLUB)
