The cost of geothermal heating is one tenth of natural gas.
Geothermal Energy Association (JED) President Ali Kındap stated that comfortable heating can be provided to homes with geothermal energy and shared the information that geothermal source heating is already being used in 150,000 households in the western region of Turkey.
“Currently, the cost of geothermal heating is half the prices of the gas we use in the houses,” Kınap said, adding: “We pay 20 percent of the gas in the houses, 80 percent is subsidized by the condition. From this perspective, geothermal heating is 10 times cheaper than the unsubsidized natural gas price,” he said.
Explaining that geothermal source heating can be used in every home in Turkey, Kındap said that the legislative infrastructure must be established first, and then a physical infrastructure similar to the infrastructure of the water network is needed.
CURRENT DEFICIT AND CLIMATE CHANGE Emphasis
Expressing that there are 62 thousand megawatts of geothermal discovery in Turkey on the records of the Directorate General for Mineral Research and Exploration, Kındap said, “This means energy equivalent to 60 billion cubic meters of natural gas. This amount is at the level of Turkey’s annual demand for natural gas. We use close to a third of this amount that we import today to heat the houses, and the economic equivalent of the gas that is used only in the houses in the international market is 23 billion euros”, he said.
Underlining that geothermal heating must be rapidly expanded to help close Turkey’s current account deficit and strengthen its fight against climate change, Kınap said: “If investments related to this resource start in a short time, heating can be provided to everybody. houses in Turkey using geothermal energy until 2050. . As long as we do this with a cheap, clean, domestic resource, we can greatly reduce our foreign dependency.”
GEOTHERMAL SOURCE HEATING OVER IN IZMIR
According to information shared by JED, the largest number of households with geothermal heating is 38,899 in Balçova and Narlıdere regions of İzmir, 30,000 in Afyonkarahisar Sandıklı, 25,000,610 in Ömer-Gecek regions of Afyonkarahisar and Simav in Kütahya. 18 thousand 612. (AA)
