The hunger limit increases every month

What is the limit of hunger? What is the hunger limit and how is it determined?

The hunger limit became a topic of curiosity after the president of Türk-İş, Ergün Atalay, announced that the starting wage in the minimum wage negotiations would start above the figure determined as the hunger limit. The hunger limit is shown as the minimum income required for citizens to continue with their lives.

HOW MUCH IS THE HUNGER LIMIT?

The Turkish Confederation of Trade Unions (Türk-İş) announced the hunger and poverty line data for November 2022.

Consequently, the hunger limit, which covers the monthly food expenses of a family of four, was 7,425 TL in October, while it increased to 7,786 TL in November.

Therefore, the hunger limit has been raised to 2,286 TL above the minimum wage.

The poverty line, which covers all expenses such as rent, bills, education, clothing and transportation, increased from TL 24,185 in October to TL 25,365 in November.

COST OF LIVING FOR A SINGLE EMPLOYEE 10 THOUSAND 170 TL

According to Türk-İş data, the monthly cost of living for a single employee increased from 9,705 TL to 10,170 TL.

Announcing that kitchen inflation increased by 4.87 percent on a monthly basis, Türk-İş announced that there was an increase of 137.38 percent in the past twelve months.

In the statement made by Türk-İş, it was stated that “inflation has further impoverished the economically tight and fixed income segments.”

HOW IS THE HUNGER LIMIT CALCULATED?

In calculating the hunger limit, it is obtained by adding the value of the resources that an adult will consume in a year to lead an adequate life, and it increases over time at the rate of inflation.

The most important of these resources is the rent or expense of the place used to live. Therefore, economists, who are directly related to the hunger limit, closely follow the fluctuations in real estate prices.
