Natural gas imports decreased 20.5 percent in September

The Energy Market Regulatory Authority has published the Natural Gas Market Sector Report for the month of September.

According to the data, Turkey’s natural gas imports decreased 20.5 percent in September compared to the same month a year earlier and stood at about 3.401 million cubic meters. Approximately 3,104 million cubic meters of imports were made through pipelines and 296 million cubic meters through liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities.

In this period, natural gas imports through pipelines decreased by approximately 14.4 percent and LNG imports decreased by 54.6 percent.

THE LARGEST IMPORT FROM RUSSIA

In September, the largest imports of natural gas were from Russia with 1,539 million cubic meters, followed by Iran with 854 million cubic meters and Azerbaijan with 710 million cubic meters.

In this period, Russia’s natural gas imports decreased by 23%, Iran’s imports decreased by 3.8%, and Azerbaijan’s imports decreased by 3.7%.

POWER PLANTS CONSUMPTION LOW 28.6 PERCENT

In said period, the consumption of natural gas in the country decreased 21.7 percent and reached 3 thousand 179 million cubic meters.

Natural gas consumption in organized industrial zones decreased by 9 percent and was registered at 324 million 28 thousand cubic meters.

Natural gas consumption at power plants fell 28.6 percent to 1.331 billion cubic meters. The decrease in gas consumption by the power plants was also decisive in the decrease in total consumption and imports.

The consumption of natural gas in residences, for its part, increased by 2.5 percent in September compared to the same month of the previous year and reached 312 million cubic meters.

INCREASE IN THE STOCK OF NATURAL GAS

The amount of natural gas stock in Turkey, on the other hand, increased 36.1 percent in September compared to the same month a year earlier and became 3.896 million cubic meters.

3,732 million cubic meters (95.8%) of the natural gas stock was in underground storage and 164 million cubic meters (4.2%) in LNG terminals.

In this period, the amount of stock in underground storage increased by 46.6 percent, while the amount of stock in LNG terminals decreased by 48.3 percent. (AA)
