Record car sales streak ends

The Association of Automotive and Mobility Dealers (ODMD) announced its car sales for August.

The market, which grew throughout 2023, contracted for the first time this month. The automobile and light commercial vehicle market, which in July was 112,459,000 units, reached 86,454 units in August.

In August 2023, the automobile and light commercial vehicle market increased 78.9 percent over August 2022, reaching 86,454.

In August 2023, car sales increased 87.7 percent from the same month of the previous year and amounted to 66,131 units, while the light commercial vehicle market increased 55.1 percent to 20,323 units.

The auto and light commercial vehicle market is up 48.8 percent compared to the 10-year average sales in August.

JANUARY-AUGUST DATA

In the period January-August 2023, the total Turkish car and light commercial vehicle market increased by 64.7 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and amounted to 755,282 units.

In the January-August 2023 period, car sales increased 64.3 percent from the previous year to 582,419 units, while the light commercial vehicle market increased 66.4 percent to 172,000. 863 units.

88.9 PERCENT OF THE MARKET VEHICLES WITH LOW TAX RATES

According to the automobile market segments; Vehicles in segments A, B and C with low tax rates made up 88.9 percent of the market.

Segment C cars received a 54.3 percent share with 316,521 units, while segment B cars received a 33.7 percent share with 196,114 units.

Depending on the type of engine in the car market; Sales of gasoline cars obtained a share of 68.9 percent with 401 thousand 118 units, sales of diesel cars obtained a share of 15.7 percent with 91 thousand 492 units and sales of hybrid cars obtained a share of 10.4 percent with 60 thousand 489 units.

While the share of electric car sales was 3.9 percent with 22,891 units, gas-powered car sales had a 1.1 percent share with 6,429 units.
