New car sales increase in the EU in February

Total sales in the European Union (EU) auto market rose 11.5 percent last month.

The European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) has announced new vehicle registration data for EU countries for February.

Consequently, new car sales in EU countries increased by 11.5 percent last month compared to the same period in 2022 and reached 802,763.

New vehicle registrations in the member countries of the Union increased by 11.4 percent in January-February 2023, compared to the same period of the previous year, to 1,563,15.

37% PETROL, 25.5% HYBRID

36.9% of new cars sold in EU countries in February were petrol, 25.5% hybrid, 15% diesel, 12.1% fully electric, 7.2% plug-in hybrid and 3%, all 3 were made up of other fuels.

Car sales between EU countries rose 19.2 percent in Spain, 17.4 percent in Italy, 9.4 percent in France and 2.8 percent in Germany in February compared with the same period last year.

Among the 27 member countries of the Union, the largest number of new cars were put on the road in Germany in February. During this period, 206,210 new cars were registered in Germany, 130,287 in Italy, 126,236 in France and 74,011 in Spain.

According to manufacturers, VW Group sold the most new cars in the EU in February with 208,503.

Stellantis Group trailed VW Group in new vehicle sales in the EU. The Stellantis Group, which includes brands such as Peugeot, Fiat, Citroen and Opel, sold a total of 153,684 cars.

The Renault Group ranked third with 86,779 new cars, while the Hyundai Group ranked fourth with 67,764 vehicles. (AA)
