How will the insurance procedures for vehicles damaged in the earthquake be carried out?
İhsan Yiğit, President of the Gaziantep Association of Insurance Agencies, said: “Loss of value is the situation where the amount of damage caused by the at-fault party is paid to the no-fault party in double accidents. Therefore, since there is no defect here, no depreciation payment is made.”
Two big earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş caused destruction in 10 cities. Due to the earthquake, thousands of buildings were turned into rubble and tens of thousands of people lost their lives. As work continues to remove rubble from collapsed buildings after the quake, damaged vehicles have been taken to second-hand car dealerships by their owners or sent to industrial sites for repair.
HOW WILL THE VEHICLE OWNERS FOLLOW?
Expressing that there are some issues that are misunderstood by vehicle owners, the president of the Gaziantep Association of Insurance Agencies, İhsan Yiğit, said that the compulsory traffic insurance of vehicles damaged in the earthquake was thought to cover the costs, and that this was wrong.
Yiğit stated that there are two different issues regarding car insurance compared to those with earthquake coverage, noting that the most curious is the issue of depreciation.
PAYMENT WITHOUT LOSS OF VALUE
Stating that loss of value is the case where the amount of damage caused by the at-fault party is paid to the no-fault party in double accidents, Yiğit asserted that since there is no fault, there can be no depreciation payment. , and said:
“There is a lot of misinformation about the vehicles that have been destroyed or damaged by the earthquake. Misconceptions, too, there are a lot of rumors circulating in this direction. This needs to be corrected. Citizens think that the compulsory traffic insurance will cover vehicles partially damaged by the earthquake.
This is completely false information, unfortunately insurance companies do not cover such damage. Unfortunately, citizens will not be able to make any claims to insurance companies. Some insured do not take it in the field of auto insurance, although it is rare, with the idea that there will be no earthquake in Gaziantep.
There are some of our citizens who take out earthquake coverage, although there is an exception. Citizens without earthquake insurance will not be able to claim damages. Of course, there are 2 different issues regarding citizens having earthquake insurance on their insurance. The first is the vehicle is damaged and the other is partial damage. Of course, not all vehicles under the wreckage are considered a dare. The vehicle below the minimum debris must be 60 percent damaged.
Even partially damaged, you can repair your vehicle in the service of your choice. In the case of Pert, the market value of the vehicle is determined. Experts determine a current average price from different sites and car dealerships. This figure is sent to the citizen, and if they accept it, they are paid. You cannot get depreciation on pert vehicles.
Because the current value of the vehicle is paid to the insured. Our insurance policy does not cover the loss of value of a partially damaged vehicle. There are also misunderstood issues in the depreciation section. There is a common misconception that car insurance also pays for loss of value. Loss of value is the situation where the amount of damage caused by the at-fault party to the no-fault party is paid in dual accidents. Therefore, since there is no defect here, no depreciation payment is made.” (DHA)
