Automotive industry increased production and exports in January

In the first month of the year, the total production of the Turkish auto industry increased by 24 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and reached 111,837 units, while the production of cars increased by 48 percent to 70 thousand 723 units.

According to the statement, the production of commercial vehicles in the first month of the year decreased by 4 percent compared to the same month of the previous year.

While production in the heavy commercial vehicle group was up 56 percent in January, production in the light commercial vehicle group was down 8 percent. In this period, while the production of commercial cargo and passenger vehicles decreased by 4 percent, the production of tractors increased by 36 percent to 4,893 units.

In terms of the market, the commercial vehicle market grew by 51%, the light commercial vehicle market by 49% and the heavy commercial vehicle market by 62% compared to January 2022.

THE MARKET IS ABOVE THE 10-YEAR AVERAGES

In January, the total market increased 35 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and amounted to 53,509 units. In January, the automobile market grew 29 percent and reached 37,288 units.

Looking at the averages of the last 10 years, in January 2022, the total market increased by 55%, the auto market by 51%, the light commercial vehicle market by 67% and the heavy commercial vehicle market by 67%. %. In January, the share of domestic vehicles in the auto market was 31 percent, while the share of domestic vehicles in the light commercial vehicle market was 44 percent.

17% INCREASE IN TOTAL EXPORTS

According to the data, automotive exports in January increased 17 percent on a unit basis compared to the same month in 2022 and amounted to 79,381 units. Car exports, for their part, increased 46 percent to 51,122 units.

In the same period, exports of tractors increased by 25 percent and were registered at 1,718 units. According to data from the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM), exports from the automotive industry ranked first with a 14 percent share of total exports in January.

2.8 BILLION DOLLARS OF EXPORTS MADE

In January, compared to the same month of the previous year, total automobile exports increased 23 percent in dollars and 29 percent in euros.

In this period, total auto exports amounted to $2.8 billion, while auto exports increased by 40 percent to $874 million. Auto exports in euros rose 48 percent to 811 million euros.

In the same period, core industry exports increased 26 percent in dollar terms, while supplies industry exports increased 20 percent. (AA)
