Automotive production increased 6 percent in 2022
The Automotive Industry Association (OSD) announced last year’s production and export figures and market data.
Consequently, total automotive production in 2022 increased 6 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 1,352,648 units. Car production rose 4 percent to 810,889 units. Together with the production of tractors, the total production reached 1 million 402 thousand 189 units.
In 2022, commercial vehicle production increased by 10 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. In this period, production increased 26 percent in the heavy commercial vehicle group and 8 percent in the light commercial vehicle group.
CAPACITY USE RATE 70 PERCENT
Last year, the auto industry’s capacity utilization rate was 70 percent. On a vehicle group basis, capacity utilization rates were 70 percent for light vehicles (cars + light commercial vehicles), 92 percent for the truck group, 41 percent for the bus-midibus group and 66 percent on the tractor.
In said period, automotive exports increased 4 percent on a unit basis compared to the same period of the previous year and amounted to 970 thousand 124 units. In this period, automobile exports increased by 1 percent and commercial vehicle exports by 7 percent compared to the previous year. Tractor exports, for their part, increased 7 percent compared to 2021 and reached 18,154 units.
According to data from the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM), the total exports of the automotive industry ranked second in the ranking of sectoral exports with a share of 12.2 percent in 2022. According to data from the Associations of Uludağ Exporters (UIB), total auto exports increased by 6 percent compared to 2021 and reached $31.5 billion last year. In euro terms, it rose 18 percent to €29.9 billion. In this period, core industry exports increased 4 percent and supplies industry exports increased 9 percent in dollar terms.
THE TOTAL MARKET GROWED BY 7 PERCENT
Last year, the total market increased 7 percent compared to 2021 and amounted to 827,147 units. In this period, the car market increased 6 percent to 592,660 units.
Compared to the previous year, there was growth of 11 percent in the total commercial vehicle market, 24 percent in the heavy commercial vehicle market, and 9 percent in the light commercial vehicle market.
In 2022, compared to the previous year, sales of imported light commercial vehicles increased 1 percent and domestic light commercial vehicles increased 15 percent. In this period, the share of domestic vehicles in auto sales was 39 percent, and the share of domestic vehicles in the light commercial vehicle market was 59 percent. (AA)
