Preferences are changing in the car: the sedan lagged behind the SUV

In the Turkish auto market, SUV body sales increased by 15.14% in the 11 months of this year compared to the same period in 2021, while the share of SUVs in sales increased to 41.3 %.

SUV cars (Sport Utility Vehicle), which can be used in different terrain conditions besides asphalt, offer a wide range of driving conditions. These cars, which have a large cabin and volume of luggage, are also often preferred by crowded families.

The use of SUV cars in the city is also becoming a trend. Especially high-terrain and “muscular” SUVs, which are the favorites of car lovers, began to be more and more preferred by female drivers.

THE CHOICE OF THE SEDAN LIES BEHIND THE TYPE OF BODYSUV

According to data collected by the Association of Automotive Dealers and Mobility (ODMD), the most preferred body type in the Turkish car market in the January-November period was SUVs with a share of 41.3 percent and 208,693 units. .

SUV cars were followed by sedans with 37.2 percent share and 188,244 sales, and hatchback cars with 19.7 percent share and 99,816 sales. Other sales consisted of “MPV, CDV, Sport and Pickup” body types.

Compared to January-November 2021, the share of sedans decreased from 39.4% to 37.2%, while the share of SUVs increased from 35% to 41.3%. In the said period, SUV car sales increased 15.4 percent.

The share of hatchback cars also decreased from 23.7 percent to 19.7 percent. (AA)
