Decrease in gasoline and diesel, increase in sales of electric cars
According to data collected by the Association of Automotive Dealers (ODD), the total sales of cars and light commercial vehicles in Turkey decreased by 8.5 percent in the 8 months of this year compared to the same period in 2021 and became in 458 thousand 446.
In that period, automobile sales decreased 9.4 percent to 354,543 units and light commercial vehicle sales decreased 5.2 percent to 103,903 units.
When evaluating the car market by engine type, it is striking that the decline in sales of diesel-powered cars, the production of which has been gradually reduced globally, continues and is expected to stop completely in the future. The fact that manufacturers offer fewer diesel vehicles on the market compared to previous years is also considered one of the important factors in the drop in diesel sales.
Sales of gasoline cars also fell. Sales of hybrid and electric cars, which are expected to replace cars with internal combustion engines in the future, continued to rise as in recent years.
THE PETROL CAR IS FIRST
In the Turkish car market, in the first 8 months of this year, gasoline cars ranked first with 250,401 sales, while diesel cars ranked second with 60,316 units.
While hybrid car sales were 34,265, gasoline car sales were 6,278 and electric car sales were 3,283.
In January-August 2021, 256,815 gasoline, 80,643 diesel, 33,287 hybrid, 19,451 autogas and 1,196 electric were sold. Thus, sales of electric cars increased approximately 3 times.
SALES OF HYBRID AND ELECTRIC VEHICLES INCREASE
Gasoline car sales decreased 2.5 percent, diesel car sales 25.2 percent and gas car sales for cars 67.7 percent in the 8 months this year compared to the same period of 2021.
In this period, hybrid car sales increased 2.9 percent and electric car sales increased 174.5 percent.
In the periods January-August 2021 and 2022, the number of car sales, shares and changes by engine type is as follows:
INCREASE IN MARKET SHARE
The share of diesel cars, which was 20.6 percent in January-August 2021, has decreased to 17 percent in the same period this year. In that period, the share of gasoline cars increased from 65.6 percent to 70.6 percent, while the share of gas cars decreased from 5 percent to 1.8 percent.
The share of electric cars in total sales increased from 0.3% to 0.9%, and the share of hybrid cars increased from 8.5% to 9.7%. (AA)
