CHP’s proposal ‘to keep vehicles of foreign Turks in Turkey for 5 years’

CHP’s proposal ‘to keep vehicles of foreign Turks in Turkey for 5 years’

Following CHP leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu’s promise to reduce taxes on vehicle purchases in Turkey, the opposition has also started working to remove restrictions placed on Turks living abroad to use their vehicles in Turkey.

Utku Çakırözer, a member of the Overseas Turks Subcommittee of the Grand Turkish National Assembly and a deputy from CHP Eskişehir, introduced a bill in the Grand National Assembly to increase the period of stay of vehicles brought by European Turks to Turkey from 2 years to at least 5 years.

Çakırözer said: “The palace administration and the AKP are insensitive to the problems not only of the country’s citizens, but also of millions of our citizens abroad. Hundreds of thousands of European Turks, who come to Turkey in the summer to quench their longing and spend their vacations with their families, are experiencing a shortage of vehicles.

They cannot use their own vehicles in Turkey with peace of mind. Because there is an obligation to stay in Turkey for only 2 years and to have stayed abroad for at least 185 days during these 2 years. Due to these restrictions, our citizens suffer greatly and are forced to pay fines of tens of thousands of liras.

European Turks are an inseparable part of us. As a CHP, we are ready to meet all your demands. We have proposed a law so that European Turks can keep their vehicles in Turkey for 5 years.

Utku Çakırözer – MP of CHP Eskişehir

EXTEND THE TIME FROM 2 YEARS TO 5 YEARS

While Turkish people living abroad come to Turkey with their families every year, they can only stay in Turkey for 2 years with the vehicles they bring with them. On the other hand, European Turks who come to Turkey with their vehicles must have stayed abroad for at least 185 days in the year before wanting to enter the country.

As long as these conditions are not met, European Turks are not allowed to enter Turkey by car and tens of thousands of fines are imposed on anyone who violates the restrictions. It is estimated that the sum of the fines imposed on European Turks each year amounts to millions of lira.

Çakırözer from CHP mentioned the complaints experienced by European Turks, who came on vacation to their hometown of Turkey, especially in the summer months, and demanded that the maintenance period of their vehicles in Turkey be increased from 2 years to at least 5 years in to fix these grievances.

“AKP LEFT YOU WITH NO ONE”

Çakırözer made the following statements in the bill:

“While millions of expatriates, our inseparable part, can only keep the cars they bring to Turkey for up to 2 years, even if they return by plane or other vehicle, many of our citizens who do not meet the requirements of the legislation are sentenced. to heavy fines.

While European Turks spend 6 months a year in Turkey for many different reasons, they want their vehicles to be in the country for at least 5 years. With our bill, it is intended to increase the period of residence of our citizens living abroad to 5 years, provided that foreign-registered land vehicles for personal use in Turkey are limited to a single vehicle.

This will make life easier for European Turks during their stay in Turkey and eliminate grievances experienced.”
