Israel remembers its dead soldiers – review of the night

Israeli President Isaac Herzog emphasized Israel’s desire to assert itself on the annual day of remembrance for the country’s fallen soldiers and victims of terrorism. “I remind us and the whole world: we never wanted this terrible war. Not this one and not his predecessors,” he said Sunday evening at a central ceremony at the Western Wall in Jerusalem. “But as long as our enemies want to destroy us, we will not lay down our sword.” The war in the Gaza Strip between the Israeli army and Palestinian extremists continues, with fighting continuing in the north and south of the Gaza Strip. While the US government is reluctant to support Israel’s planned major offensive on the city of Rafah, it has once again assured its ally of its support.
