He threatens Netanyahu from within the Israeli government
Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, who is noted for his far-right views, described the cessation of attacks on Gaza as the “disintegration” of his government in his post on the X social media platform.
Ben-Gvir said in his post: “Stop the war (Gaza attacks) = dissolution of the government.”
IF YOUR PARTY WITHDRAWS, THE GOVERNMENT MAY DISSOLVE
To form a coalition government in Israel it is necessary to receive the support of 61 deputies, which is the absolute majority of the 120-seat parliament. The number of seats of the parties that form the coalition government led by Netanyahu is 64. The Otzma Yehudit (Jewish Power) party, led by Ben-Gvir, which is in the coalition, has 5 deputies.
The Israeli army launched attacks on the Gaza Strip on October 7 following the Hamas attack. Within the framework of the prisoner exchange agreement reached between Israel and Hamas, with the mediation of Qatar and Egypt, the clashes in Gaza were suspended for 4 days on November 24. After the talks, this humanitarian pause was extended for 2 more days.
The Israeli press also reflected that Netanyahu was worried about a coup against him from within the Likud Party, which he chairs. (AA)
