It’s a race against time for workers trapped in the collapsed tunnel for 17 days… The dangerous process has begun
The rescue efforts for 41 workers trapped in the tunnel that collapsed on November 12 in India have entered a dangerous phase.
Although the fight to save 41 workers trapped as a result of the collapse of the tunnel under construction has become a hot topic in the world, very delicate work has been carried out for days to save the workers safely before let the tunnel collapse on them.
The first images of the workers were published last week.
According to statements from authorities, when efforts to reach the workers more safely did not work in the last stage, a dangerous method was implemented to reach the rubble vertically.
As a result of the breakage of the American-made drilling tool, which was drilling meters of rock and metal to rescue workers trapped at a depth of 60 meters, work was stopped a few meters from the rubble.
During the rescue efforts, which have been prolonged due to long-standing disturbances, teams are trying to open the exit manually, while at the same time trying to reach the area at a depth of 82 meters in other places with drills.
The workers’ families pray and wait with hope.
MAY COMPLETELY COLLAPSE
Pointing out the risk of collapse of the tunnel during drilling, Anshu Manish Khalkho, chairman of the National Highways and Infrastructure Authority, said: “The rocky area is very sensitive. “The more we dig, the more we discover, but we’re trying to use all the techniques we have,” he said.
Experts warn that vertical drilling can cause vibrations in the mountainous area and cause the tunnel to completely collapse.
It is also worrying that some of the workers to whom food and medicine are delivered with the help of the open pipeline have fallen ill. The workers’ families wait excitedly in the rubble for their loved ones to be rescued.
