UN calls for ‘complete ceasefire’ in Gaza

UN calls for ‘complete ceasefire’ in Gaza

United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said the dialogue that resulted in a “humanitarian pause” in Gaza must continue and become a “full humanitarian ceasefire.”

The UN spokesperson made a written statement on the issue. Accordingly, Guterres emphasized that the seven-week conflict and the terrible loss of life in Gaza shocked the world, saying: “The guns have been silent for the past four days. “We saw Israeli and foreign hostages released by Hamas and Palestinian prisoners released from Israeli prisons,” he said.

Expressing his gratitude to Qatar, Egypt and the United States for their contribution to reconciliation, Guterres confirmed that the UN will continue to provide its full support in this context. Guterres stated that the UN increased humanitarian aid to Gaza for 4 days and also reached the northern region, adding: “However, this aid does not meet the needs of 1.7 million displaced people. “The humanitarian tragedy in Gaza worsens every day,” he warned.

Stating that “the dialogue that led to reconciliation must continue and develop into a full humanitarian ceasefire for the benefit of all the people of Gaza, Israel and the region,” Guterres reiterated his call for the unconditional and immediate release of all hostages.

Guterres stressed the importance of a two-state solution for the future of the region, noting that countries should use their influence to end this terrible conflict. (AA)
