Spain gives the EU a rest: We make our own decisions

Palestine from Spain to the EU

Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo and Spanish Prime Minister Sánchez held talks today in Egypt, following their meetings yesterday in Israel and Palestine.

Speaking to the press in Egypt, Sánchez noted that Spain would recognize the Palestinian state in a short time.

Sánchez said: “It is time for the international community and the European Union to recognize the Palestinian state. Something worthwhile and important. “We must do it together with the EU, but if the EU does not recognize the Palestinian state, Spain will make its own decision,” he said.

Spain has had frequent disagreements with the European Union countries of which it is a member since October 7, when Israel and Hamas began clashes.

Sánchez is carrying out diplomacy to organize an international peace conference based on a two-state solution in the event of a permanent ceasefire between Israel and Palestine. (AA)
