Israel’s step to increase tension

Israel ‘execution’ step that will increase tension

As reported by the Israeli newspaper Maariv, far-right Minister Ben-Gvir said: “Parliament will discuss preparations for the first vote on the bill providing for the death penalty for Palestinian prisoners on Monday.”

Ben-Gvir stated that the party that proposed the bill on the execution of Palestinian prisoners was the Jewish Power Party, which he leads, and that they hope that all deputies in parliament will support it.

IT WAS ALSO DISCUSSED IN MARCH

In March, the Israeli parliament approved the bill introduced by Ben-Gvir in the preliminary session, allowing the death penalty to be imposed on Palestinian prisoners convicted of killing Israelis. The bill, supported by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, sparked a reaction from Palestinians.

For the bill to come into force, it must be voted on in 3 more sessions after the preliminary session.

THE DEATH PENALTY WAS ONCE IMPLEMENTED IN ISRAEL

There is no death penalty in Israel’s civil courts. In military courts, this penalty may be imposed in extremely exceptional cases. This power has been used only once in Israel’s history, against a former Nazi criminal, in a 1962 case. (BRITISH AUTOMOBILE CLUB)
