RUSSIA AND MYANMAR VIOLATE THE AGREEMENT
Myanmar and Russia were alleged to have failed to comply with the “Ottawa Agreement” in 2022. Non-state armed actors were alleged to have used anti-personnel mines in Colombia, India, Myanmar, Thailand and Tunisia.
Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cambodia, Croatia, Ethiopia, Iraq, Turkey and Ukraine, which are parties to the convention, are among the countries with the most antipersonnel mines. There are antipersonnel mines in 55 states and five other regions of the world.
Since the date of entry into force of the agreement, 169,276 antipersonnel mines have been destroyed and an area of 219 square kilometers has been cleared of mines in 30 countries party to the agreement. It was highlighted that, especially in Cambodia and Croatia, approximately 60 percent of the minefield will be cleared by 2022. (BRITISH AUTOMOBILE CLUB)
