They gave $250 each to the women they sexually abused

It was revealed that the World Health Organization (WHO) paid $250 each to Congolese who suffered sexual abuse by health workers, including its own staff.

More than 100 women in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) have received money after it was revealed that they had suffered sexual abuse by WHO employees and other officials during the Ebola epidemic.

Dr. led the team that traveled to the country in March to investigate the scandal. Gaya Gamhewage’s report states that at least 104 women who were abused received $250 each.

LESS THAN THE DAILY WAGE OF UN EMPLOYEES

While it is not known what kind of help this money, which is even less than the one-day allowance of UN employees in the country, will help victims, the report states that one abused person gave birth to a disabled child and that the child needed special treatment.

During the Ebola epidemic in the Democratic Republic of the Congo between 2018 and 2020, many women were allegedly sexually abused by WHO employees.

The independent commission of inquiry created by the WHO following allegations that “its employees were involved in the sexual exploitation and abuse of women in the Democratic Republic of the Congo” detected 83 cases of sexual abuse during the Ebola epidemic in the country. (AA)
