The rebels rose up… They killed civilians.

The attack took place in the Kitshanga village of the city of Beni in the Congo.

The rebels raided the town, looting and burning many houses. 13 civilians lost their lives and 10 people were injured in the attack.

Following the attack, the Congolese army launched an operation in the region. 6 rebels died in the operation.

The ADF is a rebel group that has operated in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo since the late 1990s. Thousands of civilians have reportedly been killed and hundreds of thousands of people displaced in ADF attacks since 2014.

The attack is seen as a reflection of the violence taking place in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The east of the country has been the scene of attacks and conflicts by armed groups for more than 20 years. These attacks led to the deaths of thousands of civilians and the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people. (AA)
