Electoral ban in North Korea: you cannot leave the provinces

In North Korea, citizens are prohibited from leaving their provinces of residence until the local elections to be held on November 26 conclude.

The newspaper NK, based in Seoul, capital of South Korea, reported based on North Korean sources that this ban was imposed to guarantee “full participation without exception” in local elections.

It was stated in the news that, by decision of the Council of Ministers, North Koreans were prohibited from traveling between provinces until the local elections were over, and that the Council of Ministers called for “dozens of political propaganda and educational activities.” every day until the end of the elections and teach all citizens, without exception, that they must participate in the elections.

The news noted that the number of people traveling within the province and the use of transport vehicles were restricted, and stated that this decision was “a necessary measure for the success of the local elections.”

The news also reported that the Ministry of Social Security temporarily restricted the issuance of documents that North Koreans need to travel between provinces until the elections are concluded. (AA)
