WSJ: War in Gaza also shakes US-Israel alliance

The rapidly rising tension in the Middle East is also leading to changes in regional balances.

The American newspaper The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) wrote that the United States and Israel have disagreements over long-term plans for Gaza. The story, which examines the divergent aspects of US and Israeli policies in Gaza in the short and long term, states that the United States clearly expressed its support for Israel after the October 7 attacks, while Israel views Hamas as an “existential threat.”

The news noted that the United States, which supports Israel, intends to keep its “allies” united against Iran, Russia and China, and noted that US President Joe Biden changed his policy after “critical voices emerging from his own party.” .

‘The United States forced Israel to change its strategy’

In this context, it was noted that the Biden administration “forced Israel to minimize civilian casualties and launch more strategic strikes against Hamas leaders.”

It was stressed that, in the long term, Biden advocates a “two-state” solution and Israel is “trying to destroy Hamas.”

DOMESTIC PRESSURE IS INCREASING

It was noted that as the conflict continues, Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu face increasing political pressure in their own countries.

The report claims that Biden, who was initially praised for his support for Israel, received criticism from members of his own party, especially young, Muslim and Arab-American voters, who were concerned about the rising death toll in Gaza and called for the government to request a ceasefire.

Furthermore, news reports reported that even members of Congress who support Israel and support military aid said they wanted to see more restraint in the military operation against Hamas. (AGENCIES)
