Reaction in Israel to woman who said ‘Hamas treated us well’
The armed wing of Hamas, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, released two Israeli women last night.
Yochaved Lifshitz, one of those released, described his experiences as follows:
– “They said that they were people who believed in the Koran and that they would not harm us. They provided us with the same conditions as in the tunnels.
– First we arrived at a large room where 25 people had gathered, and after a few hours they separated the people and put them in a separate room. We had a doctor assigned to us and he came every few days to see what was going on.
– The doctor definitely brought medicine. There were 5 of us in total and each one had a guard. “His behavior was good, he took care of us in every detail.”
“IT WAS A MISTAKE TO ALLOW HIM TO MAKE A STATEMENT”
The statements, broadcast live, provoked reaction from some in Israel.
Israeli state television KAN quoted an Israeli broadcaster as saying: “It was a mistake to allow Lifshitz to make a live statement.”
Roy Cohen, media officer for the country’s basketball team, also commented on his social media account: “The making of this press release should be criticized.”
One Israeli social media user shared, “It’s unfortunate that he’s back, that Hamas is taking him back,” while another called Lifshitz, 85, “leftist trash.”
Haaretz diplomatic correspondent Amir Tibon stated that supporters of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “furiously attacked” Lifshitz. (AA)
