China’s critical visit to the United States

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang travels to the United States

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said Minister Wang Yi will discuss bilateral relations and international and regional issues of common interest with US officials during his visit.

Spokesman Mao said the minister will establish contacts with different segments of society and noted that Wang “will convey to his interlocutors China’s principled stance and its legitimate concerns in its relations with the US.”

“WE HOPE THEY WILL WORK TOGETHER WITH CHINA”

Regarding his expectations from the visit, Mao said: “We hope that the US side will work with China to strengthen communication and dialogue, expand practical cooperation, properly manage differences and return bilateral relations to the path of sound and stable development. , in accordance with the agreement reached by the leaders of the two countries.”

OF CRITICAL IMPORTANCE

Wang’s visit is critically important at a time when the search for dialogue in US-China relations is increasing following tensions created by geopolitical and economic competition.

LOOKING FOR DIALOGUE

It is noted that high-level contacts have recently intensified in Washington-Beijing relations, which stalled due to the crisis caused by the entry of a Chinese high-altitude balloon into US airspace in February.

Following Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s visit to China, which he canceled due to the balloon crisis, in June, US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and Special Representative for Climate Change John Kerry visited the country in July, and the Minister of Commerce, Gina Raimondo, visited the country in August.

A group of senators led by US Senate Majority Leader Senator Chuck Schumer also visited China earlier this month and were welcomed by President Xi Jinping.

The governor of the US state of California, Gavin Newsom, is also visiting China these days.

Xi will meet with BIDEN

Chinese President Xi Jinping is scheduled to attend the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in San Francisco, US, in November and meet with President Joe Biden there.

During Chinese Foreign Minister Wang’s visit, details of Xi’s participation in the summit and his possible meeting with Biden are expected to be discussed.

Biden and Xi last met face-to-face at the G20 Summit held on the island of Bali, Indonesia, in November 2022. While Biden attended the G20 Summit in New Delhi, India’s capital, this year , the Chinese leader did not. (AA)
