Official accusation against the former prime minister in the Pakistani judiciary
In Pakistan, the court officially charged former Prime Minister Imran Khan and former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmud Qureshi with violating the State Secrets Act.
According to national media, the hearing of the case in which Qureshi and Khan were tried was held at Adiala prison in Rawalpindi, where they were detained.
Special Court Judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain officially charged former Prime Minister Khan and former Foreign Minister Qureshi, who were tried for “revealing state secrets”, under the State Secrets Act.
Khan and Qureshi did not accept the allegations. The court postponed the next hearing until October 27.
HE WAS ARRESTED IN AUGUST
Imran Khan was arrested by the police on August 5 and sent to prison after the court issued an arrest warrant against him in the corruption case in which he was tried.
The three-year prison sentence imposed on Han in the corruption case in which he was tried was postponed on August 29 and the former Prime Minister was ordered released on bail. However, on August 30, Judge Abul Hasnat Zulkarneyn extended the detention period of Khan, accused of “revealing state secrets” at the request of the prosecution.
Former Foreign Minister Qureshi was arrested from his home in Islamabad on August 19 and sent to prison for a similar reason. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had filed a case against former Prime Minister Khan and his deputies for violating the State Secrets Act. (AA)
