Surprising figure: the number of Palestinian prisoners held by Israel doubled during the war

As Israel appeals to the world for help for the nearly 200 hostages kidnapped by Hamas in the October 7 raid, the number of Palestinian captives held by Israel has been announced.

According to Al Jazeera, the number of Palestinians detained by Israel has almost doubled in the last two weeks, reaching 10,000. On October 7, the number of Palestinians detained in Israeli prisons was around 5,200.

For years, Israel has held Palestinians in prisons without trial for long periods of time.

Palestinian officials stated that Israel has detained more than a thousand people, including children, during protests and nighttime raids in the West Bank and East Jerusalem since the start of the war.

It was noted that nearly 4,000 Palestinians who went from Gaza to Israel to work were imprisoned after the outbreak of the war.

THEY LEAVE THEM HUNGRY AND THIRST

The lawyers emphasized that Palestinians are kept in terrible conditions in Israeli prisons, cannot receive medical care and remain hungry and thirsty for days.

Palestinian Authority officials noted that raids and detentions of Palestinians by Israeli police have reached unprecedented levels.

Palestinian human rights group Addameer this week called on the International Committee of the Red Cross to monitor the situation of Palestinian prisoners. Palestinian officials emphasize that international institutions are not putting enough pressure on Israel regarding Palestinian prisoners.
