Ersin Tatar: We hope the suffering in Gaza ends
TRNC President Tatar, who attended the opening ceremony of the 2023-2024 academic year of Girne American University (GAU), gave the first lesson to the students.
Tatar stated at the conference that the attacks and deaths that occur every day in Palestine remind them once again of what happened in the past in Cyprus, and noted that what is happening in Palestine shows once again the importance of security, tranquility and the peace.
Expressing great sadness over the conflicts in Gaza, Tatar said: “We hope the suffering in Gaza ends. I hope the attacks, conflicts and deaths end as soon as possible. “This is our greatest wish.” he said.
The Rector of GAU Prof. Dr. Ali Haydar spoke at the opening ceremony and also wished his students a successful semester, hoping that the war in the nearby geography would end as soon as possible.
ISRAEL-HAMAS CONFLICT
Hamas’s armed wing, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, launched a comprehensive attack against Israel on the morning of October 7, dubbed the “Aqsa Flood.”
As thousands of rockets were fired from Gaza into Israel, Palestinian armed groups attacked and seized the Beit Hanun-Erez border gate on the Gaza-Israel border.
Armed groups then entered settlements inside Israel from here and the Israeli army launched an attack on the Gaza Strip with dozens of fighter jets.
It was reported that 1,400 Israelis, including 306 soldiers, were killed and 4,834 Israelis were wounded in the attacks carried out from Gaza.
The Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza announced that 4,137 people, including 1,524 children, were killed and more than 13,000 injured in Israel’s attacks on Gaza.
It was claimed that 81 Palestinians were killed in attacks by Israeli forces and Jewish settlers in the occupied West Bank.
13 journalists lost their lives in Israeli attacks.
In the clashes that began between the Israeli army and Hezbollah on the Lebanese border on October 8, 12 members of Hezbollah, 2 members of Islamic Jihad and 3 civilians, one of whom was a journalist, lost their lives.
Two Israeli soldiers and one Israeli civilian lost their lives in the attacks carried out by Lebanon.
In Israel’s attack on Al-Ahly Baptist Hospital in Gaza on October 17, 471 people were killed and 342 injured, 28 of them seriously. (AA)
