UN calls for investigation into hospital attack

UN Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq, at the daily press briefing, told the AA correspondent: “(UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin) Griffiths stated at the Council meeting today that the attack on the al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza was due to the order of the Israeli authorities to evacuate the hospital.” He noted that this occurred a day later. Israel claims it did not carry out the attack. Will the UN participate in the investigations into this horrific attack that caused hundreds of victims? “What is the number of victims in Gaza after this attack?” He answered his questions.

Stating that it is “too early” to answer whether the UN will participate in the investigation, Haq said the UN should look at the steps to be taken in the context of the investigation.

Haq said: “It is important to carry out an investigation into the attack.” he made the assessment of it.

When it was recalled that the UN investigated the attack on a school of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Middle East (UNRWA) in 2014, “without the consent” of anyone, and asked if there was an intention to carry out such an investigation. Haq said, “We do not want to act hastily. What is clear is that an investigation needs to be carried out. “We will act taking into account the regulations,” he said.

Haq stated that according to the latest data, 1,300 Israelis and more than 3,000 Palestinians have lost their lives since October 7. (AA)
