EU decision on aid to Gaza

The EU triples humanitarian aid to Gaza

The President of the EU Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, in her telephone conversation with the Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), Antonio Guterres, announced that aid to Gaza will be increased to 75 million euros.

Von der Leyen said in her statement: “The Commission will immediately increase the current humanitarian aid package for Gaza by €50 million. This will bring the total to more than 75 million euros. “We will continue our close cooperation with the UN and its organizations to ensure that this aid reaches those who need it in the Gaza Strip,” he said.

Von der Leyen also shared the message on her Twitter account: “We will redouble our efforts to ensure this support reaches those who need it.”

Janez Lenarcic, EU Commission member responsible for crisis management, said: “The Commission is doing everything possible to provide humanitarian support to civilians in the Gaza Strip. A tripling of EU humanitarian aid will help ensure that the basic needs of civilians in Gaza can be met. “It is essential to guarantee safe and unlimited access to humanitarian aid,” he said. (AA)
