Terrifying UN statement on Gaza
UN Secretary-General Guterres made a statement to the press before the UN Security Council that the developments in Gaza will be discussed in a closed session.
Noting that the situation in Gaza has worsened, Guterres stated that “the terrible terrorist attack by Hamas caused the loss of lives of more than 1,200 people” and that intense bombings on Gaza began after this.
“Even wars have rules”
Guterres claimed that this dragged the entire population of Gaza into “pain and chaos” and said: “Even wars have rules. International humanitarian law and human rights law must be respected. “Civilians must be protected and must not be used as shields.” saying.
Stating that he is in contact with leaders in the region, Guterres noted that urgent humanitarian aid access to Gaza must be provided.
Stating that UN staff and partners are working around the clock to provide aid to the people of Gaza, Guterres said: “Moving 1.1 million people to an area where there is no food, no shelter and is under complete siege is very dangerous and not possible under some conditions.” he said.
“IT’S TIME TO FIND A PERMANENT SOLUTION”
Guterres also noted that accusatory and exclusionary speeches that lead to violence are never acceptable, and stressed that all types of hate speech must be opposed.
“This is the time for the international community to come together to ensure the protection of civilians and find a lasting solution to the endless cycle of destruction,” said the UN Secretary-General. He finished the words he said. (AA)
