Thousands of people took to the streets in Palestine
After the crisis between Israel and Hamas, demonstrations in support of Palestine continue in many countries. Iraqis gathered in Baghdad’s Tahrir Square with Iraqi and Palestinian flags in their hands and shouted slogans against Israel and in support of Palestine.
According to the official Iraqi agency INA, in the Friday prayer sermon, the leader of the Sadr Movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, said: “Jerusalem is not just a symbol or a slogan for us, Israel is an entity that has taken over our lands and holy places by force.” The following message was included.
The sermon also included Sadr’s statements that “all Islamic people are willing to make sacrifices for the good of Palestine.”
SADR MADE THE CALL
In the statement made on Sadr’s social media accounts on October 9, a call was made for a “million-strong demonstration” in support of Palestine.
In the statement, a call was made to Shiites and Sunnis to perform Friday prayers together on October 13 and then to organize an action in support of Palestine and protest against Israel in Tahrir Square. Provinces other than Baghdad were also asked to participate in the demonstration in support of Palestine. (AA)
