They killed and crushed the journalist
Local television channel Sudan Bukra (Sudan of Tomorrow) announced that its employee, journalist Halime Idris, died after being crushed by an HDK vehicle while reporting in the city of Umdurman, west of the capital Khartoum.
In its statement, the Sudan Journalists Union strongly condemned the killing of Idris and demanded an investigation into the incident and all violations against journalists since the beginning of the war.
Stating that journalist Idris was killed in the line of duty, the union noted that the HDK’s “violation of journalists’ rights to the point of killing them” is an extremely dangerous issue.
The union called on all regional and international human rights organizations that work in the field of freedom of expression and defend the rights of journalists to condemn this “horrible crime” and to press for an investigation of all violations committed.
The Sudan Journalists Union gave the message: “The continuation of the war increases the risks that journalists face every day and endangers their lives.” (AA)
