Following the attacks by the armed wing of Hamas against Israel on October 7, the death toll in the region is rising after the Israeli army retaliated harshly. While civilians bore the brunt of the war and violence, the footage of the BBC’s Arab correspondent reporting from the region on camera was heartbreaking.

BBC Arab correspondent Adnan El-Bursh broke down in tears while reporting from Sifa Hospital, where the wounded and those who lost their lives in Gaza were taken. El-Bursh, who lives in the region and writes major news stories for the BBC, could not hold back tears as he surveyed the hospital and explained his observations.

El-Bursh, who at one point fell to his knees, said he saw his friends and neighbors among the bodies. El-Bursh stressed that what he experienced was very traumatic and said: “There are bodies everywhere. You have seen things that I will never forget in my life. Here at Al-Shifa Hospital, there are dead bodies everywhere. The wounded scream for help, it is impossible to forget these sounds again. My cameraman friend Mahmud saw his friend Malik among the dead and wounded. “Malik managed to survive, but his family died,” he said.

THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE DIE IN A FEW DAYS

The reporter, surprised, said: “This is our hospital. Inside we have friends, neighbors and community. “Today is the hardest day of my career,” he said.

While at least 1,300 people have been killed in Israel since the war began on Saturday, at least 1,500 Palestinians have been recorded killed in Israel’s bomb attacks on Gaza.
