Palestinian-Israeli crisis in the Arab League
Algeria expressed reservations about the final declaration of the meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Arab League held in Cairo, the capital of Egypt, on the events in Palestine.
Algeria ensured that the following statements were added to the end of the final declaration: “The Algerian delegation does not approve of the situation that equates the inalienable right of the Palestinian people to self-determination to establish a sovereign State within the 1967 borders with the practices of the Zionist regime in violation of international conventions and decisions”.
Algeria objected to the statement contained in the second paragraph of the statement released after the meeting, which read: “The killing of civilians on both sides and all actions contrary to international law are condemned.”
The Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, also stated in his speech that the double standard applied by the international community towards the Palestinian issue, which is the most just in the world, must be denounced. Attaf emphasized that Israel made a mistake in thinking that the Palestinian people were “defenseless and surrendered to what was imposed on them.”
The foreign ministers of the Arab League member countries held an extraordinary meeting yesterday in Cairo to discuss Israel’s attacks on the blockaded Gaza Strip. At the meeting, warnings were given about the repercussions of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in the region and a call was made to the international community for urgent intervention. (AA)
